To do this you will need to optimise your site - this is known as Search Engine Optimisation.
On-page optimisation - is the editing of page titles, keyword density and research, page descriptions, heading and image tags, sitemaps and internal links in order to maximise performance for targeted keywords related to your page content.
Off-page optimising is the process of building links to your site from sites with relevant content, submitting your site to search engines and web directories in order to maximise performance in the search engines for your targeted keywords.
- Optimising your site and getting to the top of Google for your selected search term can be achieved but it takes time and patience! Some search engines can take up to 6 months to properly index your site!. Think about your products and services and what keywords and phrases you can use to describe them and write your text with these in mind whilst keeping the integrity and quality of your copy. Try to use your targeted phrase at least three times within your text.
LOOK at your competitors to see who links to them and start building more web links to your site - if you are a member of an association make sure to send them details of your new website for their links page!
DMOZ – submit your site to the ‘Open Directory’ (human edited web directory). It can take some time to get into this and there is no guarantee that you will but it is worth its weight in gold if you can get registered!
BLOG – create an external Blog with interesting articles that link to your website and make sure to update them on a regular basis. This will create rich content related back links to your site that users can interact with and share with
others - spreading the word about your website!
GOOGLE MAPS – check to see if you are already listed (through your Google control panel) and update/add details, photos etc.
ARTICLE SUBMISSIONS - publish articles about your products and services on ezines for added exposure.
SOCIAL NETWORKING - add a link to your facebook page, linkedin and any other networks that you are registered with and spread the word virally!
